The Virginian-Pilot
Credit Policy

While our general payment policy is cash in advance, once you have submitted a completed Virginian-Pilot credit application to our credit department and have received approval for credit, you can move to credit as your payment option.

CREDIT POLICIES

Before credit can be extended, a completed and signed Virginian-Pilot credit application must be submitted to our credit department (original signature or faxed) at least three days before reserving advertising space. Otherwise, advertisers will pay cash in advance at the open rate until credit application is processed by our credit department.

A completed and signed Virginian-Pilot credit application must accompany any Virginian-Pilot advertising contract before the contract will take effect. The credit applications must be submitted to our credit department before space reservation for the contracted advertising is done.

We have some advertising categories that are cash-in-advance only customers and cannot be placed on credit. These categories include "going out of business," bankruptcies, promotions, seminars, political and transient (one-time/non-permanent advertiser to our market). Signed insertion orders may not be substituted for credit applications of contract advertisers for cash-in-advance categories.

Pilot Advertising sales personnel are not authorized to negotiate, alter, amend or change any credit terms, terms for payment of any past due debt or the like.

All signed advertising insertion orders are subject to review by The Virginian-Pilot's Credit Department for approval.

On credit, payment is due by the 15th of the month following publication. Invoices are sent out the first month after the advertising has been published.

If a business ownership change occurs, the person who signed the credit application must give 30 days prior written notice to a representative of the credit department of the change and remains obligated for any extension of credit until 30 days after said notice is received.

An Advertising Agency must accept the responsibility for paying for the advertising they place. Agencies acting only as advertising placement agents, or who do not accept the responsibility for paying for the advertising they place, will not be eligible for an agency discount and will be required to prepay for advertising.

Local Advertising Agency should provide a copy of their current business license to receive an agency discount.

Credit applications from Advertising Agencies should be accompanied with the Agency advertising insertion order.
